This unique clock was crafted from imported mahogany, convex glass, and a specially constructed quartz motor. To make the best of your Tide Clock you should understand what causes high and low tides. The moon is the major cause of the tides. The "Lunar Day" (the time it takes for the moon to reappear at the same place in the sky) is 24 hours and 50 minutes. Most places have two high tides and two low tides each day. We have designed this unique clock so that its hand rotates every 12 hours and 25 minutes (twice each day). Your Tide Clock will stay synchronized with the moon. But there are factors that can make day-to-day tides earlier or later than your Tide Clocks displays. Therefore, it is the user's responsibility to determine these conditions for his/her own locality and take them into account .

The sun also affects the tides. When the sun, moon and earth are lined up as they are at the time of the full moon and new moon, their influences combine and high tide is higher than normal and low tide is lower than normal. When the sun and the moon are at right angles, as they are at the time of the first quarter of the moon, this cancels some of the moon's effect and the range of tide is smaller than normal. Also, at these times the sun will make the tides somewhat earlier or later than normal. This is why it is important to first set your Tide Clock on the day of the full moon, if possible, to be precise, as the moon has a dominating effect with the tides. If you rather not wait until the full moon and prefer to set it right away, simply obtain a local tide table from the nearby newspaper publication or your local weather report. For most people this is an acceptable setting. A few minutes a week either way usually goes unnoticed.

NOTE: Tide Movement are calibrated for East Coast Tides. Pacific Coast Tides are irregular so should be adjusted weekly for accuracy.
